How they work

Commercial biomass systems generate low-carbon heat and power by burning or gasifying sustainably sourced organic materials — wood chips, pellets, and agricultural residues. They’re highly effective at offsetting fossil fuel use in high-demand, off-gas-grid locations, cutting heating bills while supporting local, circular economies.

Biomass boilers perform the same function as traditional gas or oil boilers, but use organic matter as fuel. The automated systems feed fuel into a combustion chamber, heat water for space or process heating, and manage exhaust and ash safely.

Wood pellets

Highly efficient, with standardised moisture content and easy tanker delivery.

Wood chips

More cost-effective, though bulkier and requiring larger storage space.

Waste wood & agricultural residues

Often low-cost or free for businesses that produce their own organic by-products.

Biomass CHP (Combined Heat and Power): More advanced systems that use gasification to convert solid biomass into a combustible gas, which drives a generator to produce electricity while capturing residual heat for on-site use.
